Lucas House will be a place where children of Idaho and surrounding regions with life-limiting conditions and their families can come and receive respite and, as needed, end of life care.
Respite care is short-term care that helps a family take a break from the daily routine and stress of home care. It is the solution for renewed energies and new perspectives. Regular “time off” for caregivers is essential to help prevent burnout and family disintegration. Respite care becomes a necessity, not a luxury.
Lucas House will incorporate both the philosophy and practicum of pediatric palliative care. Pediatric palliative care aims to holistically identify and address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional elements of care for both the child and the family. Its primary goals are to enhance quality of life, minimize suffering, optimize functions and provide opportunities for personal growth. Lucas House will support the whole family through the journey of a child's life-limiting diagnosis to end-of-life.
The goal of the house will be about LIVING and making the most of life, no matter the circumstances.
